Grand Opening of SACC That Bangi Likes to Have One

Shah Alam, 12 J. Awal = 27 April (Tuesday):

HIS Royal Highness Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah al-Haj Ibni al-Marhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah al-Haj today launched the Grand Opening of Shah Alam Convention Centre here. Together to welcome Baginda were YAB Tan Sri Dato' Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim Menteri Besar Selangor, Y. Bhg. Tuan Othman bin Haji Omar General Manager PKNS, members of State Assemblymen and Parliament, Selangor State Government Servants and Cooperates.

YAB Menteri Besar in his speech congratulated the board of directors, management and employees of SACC as well as Perbadanan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) for their success to elevating Shah Alam to the eyes of the world. Dato' Menteri Besar said, "SACC is developed with the mission to fulfill the needs of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) industry which is one of the key contributors in the Selangor tourism industry with the development of this convention Centre."

Before that in his welcoming speech Y.Bhg. Tuan Othman bin Haji Omar General Manager of PKNS said that:, "For the first time, we have a fully equipped convention centre that will mark the birth the new chapter in the development of Shah Alam." Tuan Othman remarked, "Being in existence since 1964, PKNS is the developer of 11 integrated townships including Shah Alam, that we have come a long way. From low cost houses and now this pretigious project. PKNS extremely proud with this achievement. The Convention Centre is on a 2.5 acres land. It was built in 2006 and completed in June 2009, with a total development costing RM66 million. It opened its doors for business when soft-launched in August 2009.

Tuan Othman added, "I believe that SACC will be at par with other international convention centre. We look forward to the day when Shah Alam Convention Centre becomes an international landmark, thus making Selangor, especially Shah Alam recognized as one of the international venue for any event !"

Meanwhile, Bangi as a town of science and knowledge and considered second town well planned aftar Shah Alam needs such a convention centre. That was raised during the visit of YAB Tan Sri Dato' Menteri Besar to KUIS (22 June 2008) and launched the slogan that Bangi Bandar Ilmu. A Bangi Convention Centre is very important to cater the need of people and intellectuals populated the town. The community of universities in Bangi and its surrounding, researchers, culturists and students need such Convention Centre. For that purpose Bangi State Assemblyman and Chairman of Bandar Baru Bangi People Association had met Controller of PKNS in Bandar Bangi last year and discussed the proposal of Convention Centre in Bandar Baru Bangi. We proposed the Bangi Convention Centre to be built near Tasik Cempaka infront of the Bangi Library and in fact beside the PKNS Building. That area is in the centre of Bandar Baru Bangi and one of the beautiful place that attracted people especially during the weekend. As Bangi is a town of intellectual at the most southern part of Selangor near the KLIA and Putrajaya a Convention Centre here could attracted intellectuals, tourists, students and visitors during the conventions here. They could visit here many universities, research institutions and the people here.

We hope the Government of Selangor and PKNS would considered that Bangi Convention Centre (BCC) as one of the tops priority to be implement in the near future – Insha Allah.

Thank you.
